This 45-minute presentation will focus on the history of osteopathy as it applies to primary care and discuss how the osteopathic tenets can be both applied in both aspirational and practical ways to our approach to caring for the patient. By the end of this presentation, the learner should come away with a clearer understanding of why and how osteopathic tenets matter when trying to provide the best individualized care to each patient we encounter.

After this session, participants will be able to:

  1. Discuss the historical importance of osteopathic physicians who have impacted our modern approaches to healthcare
  2. Recall the four osteopathic tenets and their central role in an osteopathic approach to patient care.
  3. Identify how these tenets translate into tangible and visible behaviors which demonstrate our osteopathic identity.
