Common hospital medicine topics will be covered including heart failure, COPD, pneumonia, and bacteremia treatments. Other topics include diarrheal illness, including Salmonella, Shigella, and C. diff.

After this session, participants will be able to:

  1. Understand optimal heart failure regimens post hospital discharge
  2. Understand optimal COPD regimens post hospital discharge
  3. Recognize treatments for pneumonia, bacteremia, and diarrheal illnesses
About the Presenter:

Dr. Libby Pionk is a Board-Certified Family Medicine physician at McLaren Bay Region in Bay City, MI. Dr. Libby serves as the current Medical Director of Hospitalist Services at McLaren Bay Region where she provides care to hospitalized patients within a variety of units, intensive care, critical care, neuro-intensive care, and telemetry. Dr. Libby is a faculty member for the Family Medicine residency program at McLaren Bay Region, focusing instruction for residents and medical students in regards to LGBTQ health as well as care of the hospitalized, critically ill patient. Before joining the hospitalist program at McLaren Bay Region, Dr. Pionk completed her Bachelor’s degree in Biology at Oakland University and her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine. After living in eastern Kentucky (and loving it), she moved to Bay City for her clinical rotations in medical school and to live closer to family. Falling in love with the Great Lakes Bay Region community and McLaren Bay Region, she ultimately stayed in Bay City to continue her professional career. During her off-time, she enjoys golfing, bowling, and traveling with her partner, Maryanne, and caring for their 3 cats: Lucy, Louis, and Charmin.
